Cox's Bazar Project, Bangladesh

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, most families did not have secure livelihoods. One in five children never attended school and many dropped out to support their families.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the Cox's Bazar community have improved access to education, healthcare and clean water.

Together we've achieved so much

50,933 primary students received books and other education materials

In addition, around 10,000 students received support to pay school fees.

  • 55 school buildings were built and schools equipped with 30 toilets.
  • 5,000 mothers benefited from adult education and are now aware of the importance of education for their children.
  • Paved roads were built to make it easier for children to travel to school.

3,500 malnourished children gained weight

370 nutrition centres were set up to provide these children with feeding programs and their parents with nutrition education.

  • A further 7,840 children aged below five took part in a nutrition program to improve their development.
  • The project supported immunisation and deworming campaigns for children, and parents were trained on health, nutrition and hygiene.
  • 12,150 people gained improved access to clean water through the construction of 243 wells and 5,567 household toilets were built.

97 percent of households were earning income by 2016

4,500 community members gained new livelihood skills and tools such as sewing machines to start small businesses.

  • 4,000 farmers learned modern farming methods and received tools and livestock such as cows, goats and fish.

"I got adult education and training in sewing from World Vision … and now I am able to pay my children's school fees and health costs."

- Mother and small business owner, aged 34
