Flour, tents, beds and back-to-school kits will be distributed in the coming weeks to those affected by the Qinghai earthquake.
Chengduo, the county neighbouring the epicentre was badly struck by the 14 April earthquake. In Chengwen, Labu, Xiewu and Gaduo Townships, the affected population has reached 34,000. In Chengduo alone, over 10,000 houses collapsed.
Most schools in Chengduo County were damaged in the earthquake. Although some schools have already resumed classes, students may need to study and live in tents in coming winter as a consequence of frequent aftershocks and inadequate schools facilities.
Following its second assessment of the earthquake, World Vision has provided quilts, child friendly kits and hygiene kits to survivors.
As part of the relief effort, World Vision plans to distribute food and non-food items to over 60,000 people. Apart from distributing bags of flour and folding beds to the quake-affected people, there are plans to arrange back-to-school kits and boarder packs to students as well as desks and chairs to schools, ensuring a learning environment suitable for students.
The 6.9 earthquake that hit Yushu Prefecture has so far claimed 2,200lives, injured over 12,000 people and made 100,000 more homeless.
