We're also proud to partner with many aid agencies, governments, corporations and foundations in Australia and around the world. Our community of change makers, including generous Australians, enables us to make impact at scale and reach children in many of the world’s most difficult places. Our networks also enable us to be on the ground during emergencies and natural disasters - providing life-saving relief and ongoing support to people in crisis.

The World Vision Partnership works across many regions: Asia and the Pacific, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

We are leading the way to slow down climate change. Our programs are working to remove up to 25 percent of carbon from the atmosphere, prevent species loss, and end extreme poverty for millions of people.

A short summary of our long history

Our history - more than half a century of helping 

World Vision Australia was established in 1966 and has since grown to become Australia’s largest international non-government organisation. From the beginning, our activities have focused on giving people – especially children – opportunities to alleviate their suffering and improve their lives. 

World Vision’s founder Dr Robert Pierce

In 1947, American missionary Dr Robert Pierce travelled to China and Korea, where he encountered people living without food, clothing, shelter or medicine. During the Korean War in the early 50s, he helped set up orphanages to care for children who’d been abandoned or orphaned. He returned to the United States to raise funds for his work in Asia. Strong public support led to World Vision being founded in 1950, with Dr Pierce as president.
