Art festival keeps East Africa in the picture
Friday, September 23, 2011
Tonight’s launch party of the Art and About Festival will not only mark the opening of the Festival but will also remind Sydneysiders of the plight of millions of people in East Africa.
Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, has invited World Vision to collect money at the event taking place in Martin Place tonight.
All money raised will go to World Vision’s work in drought affected East Africa. The severe drought in the region is becoming one of the worst disasters to strike the continent in decades with 13 million lives now at risk.
World Vision has been responding to the food and drought crisis since February this year and is currently helping more than 2.5 million people in the region. World Vision State Manager for NSW, Jane Ruston, is pleased to have the opportunity to fundraise at tonight’s event.
“We are very grateful to the Lord Mayor and the City of Sydney for giving us this opportunity to boost funds for our appeal,” she said.
“This is a great way for us to raise awareness of the situation in East Africa and to ask Sydneysiders to dig deep to help people in desperate need.”
The Art and About launch party kicks off at 5pm today with performances from Paul Mac (DJ set), Paris Wells, and Ben Walsh.
