COVID-19: Update from Kanpur Project

Letter received June 2020

Dear sponsor,

Thank you so much for your commitment and persistent support to the children of Kanpur. As we all face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, I wanted to update you on the current situation here and what we are doing to help.

In Kanpur, the virus has been spreading across the city. This presents a risk for the health and wellbeing of children here because most families live in crowded slums where social distancing is a challenge and access to fresh water to maintain hygiene is difficult. Schools are now closed which means children are also at home during the day.

We have adapted to this situation and are staying connected over the phone with communities and families to ensure children are cared for and protected. We are also communicating the importance of good hygiene practices to children and families to help to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. World Vision India is also working with the district government to provide personal protective equipment, masks, hand sanitiser, gloves, and soap to healthcare staff and front-line workers. In addition, basic classes are being held for children over the phone for two hours each day and we are encouraging parents to monitor their children’s home-based learning so they don’t fall behind.

This is a challenging time for everyone around the globe, so as we pray for our communities, we are also praying for God’s protection for you, your family and friends. We believe that God will enable us to overcome this pandemic. Thank you for your commitment to your sponsored child. With your partnership we will continue to care for and protect children and their families in Kanpur.

Best wishes,

N. T. Murthy
