As a young girl in rural Nepal, Januka often went to bed hungry, missing school because her family couldn’t afford both food and education.
Like many families in Udayapur, Januka’s parents prioritised putting food on the table over education, trapping her in a never-ending cycle of poverty.
When Januka turned eight, a World Vision sponsor stepped in. For the first time, Januka could stop being hungry and attended school every day. She soon became top of her class.
This support carried her all the way to university. Januka became the first person in her family to graduate, and has managed to break free from poverty. Today she works in a clinic advising mothers and babies on their nutrition.
Once a hungry child herself, Januka now leads nutrition programs in her community, teaching parents how to grow vegetables and speaking to kids about healthy eating. When you sponsor one child, the impact can reach and transform many more.
