In Kenya, the prolonged droughts were pushing children like Faith, 15, into malnutrition.
Faith watched her friends drop out of school one by one. They were forced into marriage or child labour to help feed their families – and Faith knew she would soon be next.
But because of World Vision sponsors, Faith and the other children in the Bamba community were able to receive nutritious meals at school.
12 schools were supplied with maize, beans and cooking oil so they could provide healthy meals for students every day, encouraging them to stay in school and keep learning.
Child sponsors also funded water tanks, toilets and playgrounds, and helped parents set up small businesses so they could provide for their children.
Because of child sponsors, the whole community began to flourish and girls like Faith have the strength to keep showing up at school. “I want to be a teacher, so that I can come back and help my parents, my family and my community,” she says.
