In many poor countries, classrooms are overcrowded and teachers have little
or no training, so children struggle to learn.

In Zambia, Lightwell, pictured here when he was aged 10, attended primary school. However he could not read even a simple book. There were too many children in his class and too many distractions.

With the support of child sponsors, Lightwell and his friends were able to attend World Vision reading camps after school. Community volunteers made learning to read fun. Lightwell learned quickly.

Now aged 16, Lightwell loves to read. He is doing well in high school and carries a book with him everywhere he goes.
