San Antonio Project, Honduras

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, schools were under-resourced, most families did not have access to clean water and 32 percent of children were malnourished. Farmers were struggling to meet their families' food and income needs.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the San Antonio community have improved access to clean water, education, healthcare and nutritious food.

Together we've achieved so much

86 percent of families now have access to safe drinking water

This is up from 33 percent in 2012.

  • 2,148 households in 12 neighbourhoods and five schools were connected to the municipal water supply.
  • Toilets were built for 62 families to help them improve household hygiene.
  • 22 school sanitation committees were formed through which students can teach their peers about personal hygiene, the use and maintenance of toilets, and the importance of storing drinking water safely.

New classrooms were built in 17 schools

This has helped to increase access to education and improve the learning environment for 1,438 children.

  • Two pre-schools were built and learning resources supplied to a further 12 pre-schools to help boost children’s access to early learning.
  • A new junior high school has been established in the project area, as well as a business studies centre to improve children’s access to high school and vocational education.
  • Teachers from 26 schools completed training to enhance their skills and they received new teaching resources to help them improve their students’ learning.

A new community health clinic was opened

This clinic serves 500 families who had previously struggled with access to healthcare.

  • 98 percent of children aged below five have been immunised. This follows community education on the importance of immunisation and regular health checks for children.
  • 61 community health monitors have been trained how to monitor children’s nutritional status and teach parents how to prepare healthier meals for their children.
  • 103 family vegetable gardens were established, improving children’s access to nutritious food.

"The partnership with World Vision has been a great benefit … joining forces to achieve the welfare of the families with the most needs."
