Pampas Del Mirador Project, Colombia

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, the most vulnerable families were unable to meet their children's basic needs, parents lacked health and nutrition knowledge and the quality of education was poor.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the Pampas Del Mirador community have improved access to education and healthcare and they are better protected from harm.

Together we've achieved so much

A school was built and equipped

In addition, teachers at four schools completed skills training.

  • Community volunteers have been trained to monitor child wellbeing and ensure they are attending school.
  • 1,518 children received school supply kits in 2017 to support their education.
  • Children now have access to additional tuition support and extra-curricular activities including arts, dance, drama and soccer.
  • Permanent training programs have been put in place to provide parents with the skills to support their children's education.

800+ children aged below five have been fully immunised

This was achieved through health awareness campaigns and "Health Days".

  • 684 parents took part in parenting skills training in 2016, covering child health and nutrition topics.
  • Volunteers have set up a community kitchen to provide vulnerable children with a nutritious lunch.
  • 150+ families participated in an awareness campaign on how to prevent the spread of Zika virus and dengue fever.

1,200 parents have learned about child rights and child protection issues

Awareness raising events were conducted by the project in collaboration with the Mayor's Office.

  • 48 community volunteers have been equipped to monitor child wellbeing, and identify cases of child abuse and neglect and refer these to relevant authorities.
  • Children and youth are learning about child rights issues through the Peace Builders Movement and 45 youth mentors have been trained to run workshops for children on these issues.

"World Vision has been a strategic partner to generate impact on the families of the Pampas del Mirador community."
