PACODES Project, Haiti

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, harvests were poor and many parents couldn't afford to send their children to school. Health facilities were inadequate and one-third of households walked for over an hour to find water.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the PACODES community have improved access to clean water, healthcare and education.

Together we've achieved so much

92 percent of people have improved access to clean water

This is up from 50 percent in 2000.

  • Three water springs were capped to protect them from contamination.
  • 10 water tanks with filters were built and three existing water points were repaired.
  • 15,000 people learned about hygiene and sanitation. In addition, 331 families received “tippy taps” a simple hand-washing device to install at home.

Two health centres were built in the project area

This has improved people's access to health information and services.

  • A vaccination drive resulted in 79 percent of children being immunised.
  • 90 percent of the community now know how to prevent diseases such as cholera following a public health and sanitation education campaign.
  • 835 families took part in a public health campaign to combat the Zika virus in 2016. The project also distributed 250 mosquito nets amongst pregnant women.

Three schools were built and equipped to Education Ministry standards

This has improved access to education for around 450 children. More than 90 percent of primary-school-aged children are now in school.

  • A leisure centre for children and youth was created to give children a safe space to play.
  • A system to report and refer child abuse cases has been set up and health workers and members of a child protection brigade were trained on child protection issues.
  • Youth clubs, peer groups and teachers were trained on child rights and social responsibility.

"We thank World Vision but most of all the donors, who have contributed to give a better meaning and vision to our communities through the PACODES project."
