See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored child’s community

When the project started in 2006, children were suffering from malnutrition and stunted growth. Due to poor sanitation and lack of access to safe and clean water, diarrhoea was common, along with malaria and preventable childhood illnesses. Primary school enrolment levels were also low and household incomes were insufficient.

Together we've achieved so much

99 percent of households have year-round access to clean and safe water

This increased from 31 percent of households in 2012.

Over the project’s duration, 35 new boreholes were drilled and 13 existing boreholes were repaired. This benefitted over 11,000 community members. 528 people were trained in the operation and ongoing maintenance of boreholes, with 14 area mechanics trained to assist water point committees.

The primary school enrolment rate increased to 94 percent – up from 57 percent

Another focus of the project was to increase enrolments and literacy levels among primary school-aged children in collaboration with the government.

Most parents previously had a limited understanding of the importance of education, as well as having a low household income, making it impossible for them to pay for education materials. This previously contributed to high school dropout rates and exposed children to early pregnancies and marriages.

11 community health action groups and over 100 village health committees were established

Improving children’s health was identified as an important goal with 49 percent of children under five years of age suffering from malnutrition.

Mothers and other caregivers were encouraged to prepare food using locally available produce. World Vision with government partners established 27 care groups where nutritious cooking demonstrations took place. Prevention information, insecticide treated nets and indoor spraying saw malaria case numbers decrease by 30 percent.
