Fang Project, Thailand

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, less than 40 percent of parents earned enough income to support their families. The quality of education was poor and there was a lack of knowledge in the community about health and hygiene.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the Fang community have improved access to education and clean water and their families have new income opportunities.

Together we've achieved so much

288 teachers were trained to improve their knowledge and skills

In addition, 18 schools were supplied with learning resources.

  • 91 percent of children aged 12-18 were in formal education in 2016, up from 85 percent in 2014, and 3,358 students improved their literacy and achieved better academic results.
  • Vocational training helped over 1,055 students gain skills in a variety of areas such as fish farming, mushroom cultivation, hairdressing, poultry raising and vegetable gardening.
  • Five education networks were established to continue improvements that the education project has made in 27 schools.

1,266 households gained improved access to clean water

A new water system is helping to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases in children.

  • Water and sanitation facilities destroyed in a natural disaster were repaired, including 12 toilets, nine water tanks, three villages’ main water supply, three wells, and 1,232 pieces of water pipe for agricultural fields.
  • Students in 52 schools participated in an HIV and AIDS education and prevention program, and support groups distributed information about HIV and AIDS in the community and to people living with or affected by HIV.

1,962 families increased their incomes

This followed training and support for them to start livestock farming, growing mushrooms and making cleaning products.

  • Over 900 people increased their savings and gained access to small loans through community-run savings groups.
  • 766 families living in especially difficult circumstances were supported to increase the health of their children through a food and health program that helped ease families’ financial burden.

"I would like to thank World Vision for giving the opportunity to every child to have a better quality education."
