El Dorado Project, Colombia

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, many households were not connected to the city water supply, families lacked health and nutrition knowledge and education quality was poor.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the El Dorado community have improved access to education, clean water and healthcare and their rights are better protected.

Together we've achieved so much

More than 15,000 school supply kits were distributed to support children's learning

Sports equipment and teaching materials were also supplied to schools.

  • Construction of school toilets, classrooms and a soccer field have improved access to education.
  • 195 high school students received support with tuition fees so they could attend university or technical college.
  • Parents have learned positive parenting skills and about the importance of early childhood education.

1,000+ families were connected to the city water supply

The project supplied the pipes required to extend supply to additional areas.

  • Three in every four mothers now boil or filter water for their children to drink following community education on hygiene and safe water use.
  • 98 percent of households now have piped water, up from 30 percent in 2003.

98 percent of children were fully immunised by 2015

This is up from 74 percent in 2007.

  • 22 Community Health Agents have been trained and certified to provide families with health services and guidance.
  • More than 900 families have learned how to prevent, diagnose and treat common childhood illnesses.
  • Reported cases of domestic violence fell by 50 percent between 2009 and 2014 following community education campaigns on child rights and peace building.

"You understood what children really needed: encouragement, training, education and sport. All these have made of them better people."
