Dhobaura Project, Bangladesh

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, child malnutrition was common and knowledge about health and hygiene was limited. Many children had to work to support their families and education quality was poor.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and many other children in the Dhobaura community have improved access to education, healthcare and clean water.

Together we've achieved so much

Primary school enrolment has reached 99 percent

This followed an awareness campaign amongst parents about the importance of education.

  • 180 teachers from 73 primary schools were trained in better teaching methods.
  • 10 early childhood learning centres were set up.
  • 22 schools were renovated or built and 42 schools and three universities were provided with books and learning materials.
  • 1,200 students completed life skills training.

4,460 mothers and children took part in a nutritional recovery program

Malnourished children were supported to gain weight and mothers learned how to prepare nutritious meals for their families.

  • 275 health workers were trained how to run nutrition programs.
  • 1,159 local health workers were trained in safe childbirth practices.
  • Community education on health and nutrition has led to many more families seeking healthcare.

The rate of diarrhoea amongst children has dropped to four percent

This is down from 17 percent due to improved access to clean water, toilets and hygiene education.

  • 32 wells and 765 toilets were built.
  • 11,818 students learned about the importance of hand-washing and other hygiene practices.

"Many talented students might have dropped out without support from World Vision, but now they are well educated."
