Centro Este De Manabi Project, Ecuador

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, school facilities were poor, malnutrition affected one in four children and many families did not have access to clean water.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the Centro Este De Manabí community have improved access to clean water, education, healthcare and nutritious food.

Together we've achieved so much

1,000 families gained access to clean drinking water through chlorination

This has helped to reduced the incidence of diarrhoea and parasites.

  • 2,000 hygiene kits were distributed to mothers of children aged below five.
  • Hygiene awareness-raising activities were also conducted to encourage good hygiene practices such as hand-washing.
  • The project worked with the district health department to provide 25 neighbourhoods with rubbish bins to support community clean-up campaigns.

2,500 students benefited from improvements to school facilities

These included the provision of desks and chairs and improvements to toilet facilities and study areas.

  • 120 teachers completed training in literacy teaching and reading clubs have also been set up to improve children’s reading progress.
  • 2,000 children gained the chance to take part in extra-curricular activities including art, sports and dance.
  • 1,500 children learned about child rights and a parish board was set up to promote child protection.

96 percent of children aged below five were immunised in 2016

This is up from 30 percent in 2006.

  • Chronic malnutrition in children aged below five decreased from 25 percent in 2007 to 16 percent in 2016 following a community-based nutrition recovery program and nutrition education for parents.
  • 86 percent of people now have improved access to medical facilities, resulting in improved health for children and their families.
  • Over 1,000 families received vegetable seeds and support to raise small livestock to improve their children's nutrition and increase their incomes.

"I am indebted to World Vision because it gave me the opportunity to learn, participate and be an active part of my community."
