Campozano Project, Ecuador

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, farmers were struggling to earn income without quality seeds and equipment. School facilities were inadequate and most families didn't have access to clean water.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the Campozano community have improved access to clean water, education and healthcare and their families have more opportunities to earn income.

Together we've achieved so much

77 percent of teenagers had access to education by 2014

This was up from 58 percent in 2006.

  • Teenagers now have more support to continue with further education following an awareness-raising campaign about the importance of education among parents.
  • Primary teachers have received training and facilities at 15 primary schools have been improved with new furniture, reading corners, play areas and sporting fields.
  • Three new pre-schools have been set up and pre-school teachers provided with training and support. In addition, parents have learned about the importance of early childhood education.

There was only one case of malaria/dengue fever recorded in 2017

This is down from 59 cases in 2013.

  • 90 local volunteers have been trained as Community Health Promoters to educate local families about maternal and child health and nutrition.
  • The project collaborated with the health ministry to reduce malnutrition among children aged below five.
  • 15 new water supply systems were set up to provide 600 families with access to clean water at home.

Many families have doubled their crop harvests

Farmers completed training and gained access to quality seeds and tools.

  • Farmers have also learned how to minimise the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides to reduce damage to the local environment.
  • The project collaborated with the agriculture ministry to help farmers establish producer groups so they can gain better access to markets and earn higher profits from selling their produce.

"I have witnessed how children are supported and strengthened in their rights, and that will serve them for their entire lives … I consider myself a leader thanks to World Vision."

- Victor, aged 22, community leader

Clean water delivered

Access to clean water has always been a major challenge in the Campozano community. When World Vision began working there, less than 10 percent of families had clean water in their homes.

“Me and my children had to go collect water and also had to go to the river to wash clothes,” explained Graciela, aged 45. This river water was often polluted and made people – especially children – sick with diarrhoea and parasites.

Thanks to generous child sponsors like you, this situation is now very different. In partnership with the government, World Vision has developed 15 new water supply systems to provide more than 600 families with access to clean water at home.

In addition, 2,000 families have received tanks and filters to store their water safely and they have learned safe water handling practices to eliminate the risk of disease.
