Buhera Project, Zimbabwe

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

Your life-changing impact!

When the project started in 2006, this isolated farming community in Zimbabwe faced multiple challenges. More recent times have seen political upheaval, economic hyperinflation, Cyclone Idai in 2019, and an extended lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks to your support, children in the Buhera community have improved access to quality education, safe water and sanitation, and income opportunities.  This would not have been possible without the generosity of child sponsors like you.

Together we've achieved so much

51,300 people reached with hygiene education

Seven boreholes have been drilled, 15 water points repaired, and 60 deep wells and 80 shallow wells upgraded, increasing access to clean and safe water.

20 Environmental Health Technicians and 90 Village Health Workers were trained in communicating life-saving hygiene messages.

With improved access to clean water and basic sanitation,  the number of children experiencing frequent ill-health has significantly decreased.

Households accessing credit through Village Savings and Loans groups, increased to 30 percent

Savings groups act as a platform for improving access to education and increasing family incomes.

As a result of the various economic development activities, there was significant improvement in the capacity of caregivers to provide well for their children.

The majority of people accessing credit through Village Savings and Loans groups were women. Women are often the primary caregivers in the majority of households.

22 classroom blocks were renovated, and seven new classroom blocks were built

235 school desks were distributed to five schools, and 120 orphans and vulnerable children were exempted from paying school fees for one school term.

The project improved the learning and teaching environment in Buhera through  renovating and building new classroom blocks.  235 school desks were distributed to five schools, benefiting 470 children.

"My life has significantly changed, I am forever grateful to my sponsors and World Vision."
