Bethlehem Project, Jerusalem

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored child’s community

When the project started in 2008, children had poor access to educational services resulting in low participation rates and academic performance levels. Prenatal and postnatal care were of a low standard. Awareness of child protection was also low, with child marriage, and domestic and school related violence an issue. Water, sanitation and hygiene facilities were also of a low standard.

Thanks to your support, children in the Bethlehem community have improved access to nutritious food, clean water, education and greater child protection.

Together we've achieved so much

75 percent of women took iron/folate during previous pregnancy

The health of infants and children under the age of five in Bethlehem suffered as a result of high rates of malnutrition.

Iron deficiency related anaemia was identified as a common health problem for both women and young children. Through a number of programs over the last 14 years, significant improvements have been made in both mother and infant health.

11 new kindergartens were established through the Learning Roots program

Access to education in the Bethlehem area has been very challenging for children of all ages. With a low standard of teaching, many children experienced poor academic performance.

Since 2019, five resource rooms were opened and five teachers were hired by the Palestine Ministry of Education. World Vision provided training for kindergarten teachers, along with educational tools. 130 teachers were trained on using active learning methodologies.

16,850 children benefitted from activities like summer camps, child committees and student parliaments

A strong focus of the Bethlehem project was to enhance awareness of child protection and the involvement of children in decision making.

Children were supported and encouraged to be more engaged with their community and develop the skills to become agents of change. 320 parents or caregivers participated in positive discipline workshops and economic development projects to assist in improving family incomes.
