Bac Binh Project, Vietnam

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

When the project started, schools lacked facilities and well-trained teachers. Limited access to clean water and toilets left children prone to illness. Child malnutrition was common and farmers lacked skills to improve their incomes.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the Bac Binh community have improved access to education, healthcare and clean water and their families have new income opportunities.

Together we've achieved so much

Facilities at 19 schools have been improved

This included the addition of libraries, clean water and hygiene facilities, and renovated classrooms.

  • 72 percent of children aged 3-5 were enrolled in kindergarten in 2015, up from 33 percent in 2004. Kindergarten teachers were trained so they can provide early learners with a solid foundation for their ongoing education.
  • Children’s Clubs were established in eight schools, which promoted the participation of children in life skills education and encouraged them to become active in community improvement initiatives.
  • High school enrolments amongst children aged 16-18 reached 81 percent in 2016, up from 60 percent in 2004.

Families with access to clean water rose to 80 percent

This is up from 24 percent in 2004.

  • 17 schools gained improved clean water access by installing water supply systems, water tanks and pumps and 750 households received water filters.
  • 76 most vulnerable families were assisted to build hygienic toilets and 1,500 families learned improved hygiene habits.
  • 16 nutrition clubs were established in seven locations, where 350 mothers and caregivers have learned about the importance of nutrition, as well as being equipped to provide better meals for their families.

1,869 families were trained and supported to run small businesses

The percentage of households classified as “poor” fell from 21 percent in 2010 to eight percent in 2014.

  • Members of 34 farmers’ and women’s clubs were able to access small loans to support income generating activities. They also received training and other support to improve their agricultural production.
  • Nine irrigation systems were upgraded, resulting in improved agricultural production for farmers and their families.
  • 2,082 farmers learned new farming techniques to improve soil quality and grow more and higher quality produce.

"World Vision has helped the school renovate the classrooms, improved the library with a lot of books, provided equipment for teaching and learning. "
