Assasuni Project, Bangladesh

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

Your life-changing impact!

When the project started in 2006, this isolated farming community in Bangladesh faced multiple challenges. Children suffered from malnutrition, with water-related illnesses widespread. Child labour, child marriage and violence against children were additional challenges, along with poor access to education.

Thanks to your support, children in the Assasuni community have improved access to nutritious food, clean water, education and greater child protection. This would not have been possible without the generosity of child sponsors like you.

Together we've achieved so much

77 percent of households with a child aged 1-5 are accessing pre-school education

Primary school enrolment rates have also increased.

By 2015, the literacy rate had increased to 98 percent, up from 69 percent in 2011.

Significant progress was made in improving access to education with primary school enrolment rates up  to 97 percent (2015), up from 77 percent (2007).

94 percent of people have access to improved drinking water

Pond sand filters and rainwater tanks were provided to improve water quality, alongside water and hygiene education.

Significant progress was made in reducing the number of children that previously suffered from ill health due to a lack of access to safe drinking water, lack of immunisation against preventable diseases, and incorrect hygiene and sanitation practices.

The prevalence of stunted growth in children aged under five decreased from 56 percent to 32 percent.

90 percent of households have one or more adults earning income

Household resilience improved in the community.

Families received resources, training and support to earn income from farming and other small business activities such as sewing and operating small grocery shops.
