Luampa Project, Zambia

See the progress you helped make happen in your sponsored community

Your life-changing impact!

When the project started in 2005, this remote rural community in western Zambia was facing many challenges. Access to education and healthcare was limited and some families were walking up to 12 kilometres to collect clean water. Most families struggled to earn enough income from farming to meet their children’s needs.

Thanks to your support, your sponsored child and other children in the Luampa community have improved access to quality education, health facilities with well-trained staff and nutritious food. Families now have skills and opportunities to earn reliable incomes and invest in their children’s future. This would not have been possible without the generosity of child sponsors like you.

Together we've achieved so much

Families have clean water

Clean water close to home means children are healthier and life is easier

87 water facilities have been provided across four schools, three health clinics and the wider community.

Now almost 100 percent of families have a clean water source within 500 metres from home.

Children's literacy has nearly tripled

New classrooms and a reading program has improved educational outcomes

5,372 children benefited from construction of new classrooms and other facilities at nine schools through collaboration between the government, teachers, parents and World Vision.

Before and after school reading groups have improved literacy and engaged parents in their children’s learning.

Incomes have increased

Families are earning and saving more money, growing more crops and running small businesses

Farmers were trained in crop production methods and families received goats and chickens to improve incomes and child nutrition.

60 farmer co-ops and 120 village savings groups were formed to enable families to save money, access small loans and invest in income generating activities.

"I am proud to say that we now have a proper toilet, a rubbish pit, a handwashing facility, a dish rack and a bathing shower. "
