Campaign for Australian Aid was at the recent Labor National Conference

World Vision (along with a united coalition of 60 Australian Aid and Development NGOs) educated delegates at last month's Labor Party National Conference through a Campaign for Australian Aid booth and official side-event - co-hosted by the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP.

The event was extremely well attended. The expert panel of speakers (including former Victorian Deputy Premier John Thwaites, World Vision CEO Tim Costello and the Member for Gellibrand Tim Watts MP) had a great opportunity to educate delegates about the upcoming Global Goals (replacing the Millennium Development Goals at the end of the year).

It was also a great opportunity to gain support for Australian aid, one of our best investments and brightest achievements.

"I've just come back from Ethiopia and you see the difference being made on the ground to families whose children are malnourished. The difference these, mostly women, were telling me that Australian aid has made in their lives, well, it saved their lives and saved the lives of their children. It's pretty shaming, to face people and know that the country that I'm a citizen of is closing off that sort of assistance to millions of people around the world." - The Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP

"When you ask Australians how much we invest in Australian aid they typically say 15 percent of the budget. It's only one percent! It's actually amazing how much we've been able to do with aid when we spend so little. We can eradicate extreme poverty by 2030, but not with this Australian aid budget." - Tim Costello
