Nutrition education helps mums and babies thrive

Healthy mother and baby

In southwest Bangladesh, something as simple as ensuring your children have the right nutrition can prove difficult. In this region, poverty and frequent natural disasters leave families vulnerable to hunger and poor health. Here, one in four children under five shows signs of stunted growth due to malnutrition.

But things are changing for the better, thanks to a World Vision project that is helping families grow more food, increase their incomes and gain essential mother and child health and nutrition knowledge.

Young mothers are taking part in courtyard health and nutrition education sessions where they gather to feed their children together. Following cooking demonstrations conducted by trained nutrition educators, the mothers make meals with fresh ingredients that are readily available, including eggs and vitamin-rich vegetables such as spinach, tomatoes, pumpkins and more. They are then encouraged to practise what they have learned at home so their children have the nutrition needed for healthy development.

When you choose World Vision healthcare gifts you are helping to deliver proven, cost-effective interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of mothers and children around the world.
