Students reflect on the concept and value of sharing. Initially students recall ways in which Lucy was shown to share with her family in the film clip Lucy’s Story. Students recall moments of sharing from their own lives, in order to personally identify with the value and experience of sharing. They then come up with their own definition of sharing, thinking how they would explain this concept to others. Finally students explain why they think people share – what value or purpose does it offer.

This activity gives students an opportunity to develop their written communication skills, including telling personal narratives and explaining a position. An optional activity also enables students to develop their maths skills. The activity, with adaptions, could be used with students across most year levels.
