  • What is an intern?

    An intern is a tertiary student, currently enrolled in a course of study at university or TAFE. Interns often undertake a placement at World Vision as part of their course requirements.

    An intern is a volunteer, so you do not receive payment for your time with us.

  • What types of internships are available?

    We may have internship opportunities in any of our four key business areas:

    • Engagement: marketing and public awareness campaigns to engage the Australian public in efforts to eliminate poverty and its causes
    • Policy and Programs: emergency relief and community development programs, government relations and advocacy work
    • Operations: support services including finance, information technology, legal and risk, project management, call centre
    • People and Culture: international and domestic recruitment, learning and development, employee relations, staff wellbeing, volunteering and remuneration

    Please note the majority of our internship opportunities will be based in our head office located in Burwood East, Victoria.

  • How do I apply for an internship?

    Our volunteer opportunities are advertised on the following page Volunteer opportunities. Some of these opportunities may be suitable to count towards course requirements.

    You may be asked to apply with a cover letter and CV, and we follow a selection process that will include an interview, reference checks and police check.

    Internship positions are arranged and appointed on an as-needs basis.

  • What is the recruitment process?

    After we’ve received your application, the process is as follows: 

    • You’ll be asked to submit your resume and cover letter which should outline your academic studies, skills and area of interest 
    • Suitable applicants are short-listed and are contacted by phone to discuss the role in more detail
    • Candidates are invited to attend an interview, usually with a Human Resources representative and Internship Supervisor 
    • Candidates receive interview feedback 
    •  Referees are contacted
    • The successful candidate is offered the position
    • Terms of the internship are defined
    • Candidate accepts the offer

  • How many hours a week will I be required to work? Will I be able to continue my full-time study?

    Our internship projects are designed so you can continue your tertiary studies while volunteering with us.

    The number of hours you spend with us each week will depend on your university contact hours. We are flexible and will find a time commitment that’s mutually agreeable.

  • What training will I receive?

    All World Vision orientation and training sessions are available for volunteers to attend. Volunteers also receive an induction to the team and project upon commencement.

  • Will there be a job opportunity after the program?

    Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee you a job with us after the internship; however your new skills, familiarity with our organisation and your new networks will put you in a great position to apply for future roles with us or other aid and development organisations.

  • Do you send interns on international projects?

    No. All internships are conducted in-house at World Vision Australia.
