What is an e-letter?
e-letter is a free service provided by World Vision Australia to help supporters communicate with their sponsored child.
It is an internet based email service whereby sponsors can email their sponsored child.
The e-letter service is being rolled out on a country-by country basis and new countries will be available to receive email over the coming months.
How does e-letter work?
- Simply enter in your sponsored child’s ID number and check to see if the service is available in the relevant project.
- When you send your email, it is received by the World Vision office overseas where it is printed, translated and hand-delivered to your sponsored child.
- Your sponsored child will write you a return letter, which is then translated and mailed to you via the local postal service.
How will my sponsored child respond?
Your sponsored child will respond via the regular postal service. The response will not be via email.
How long will it take for my sponsored child to respond?
It will take between 12 weeks to six months for your sponsored child to respond depending on their location.
The reasons for this are:
- The postal system in your child’s area may be unreliable.
- World Vision staff deliver letters personally, which may mean a long journey over bad or flooded roads
- Letters are sometimes delivered to your sponsored child’s school, so there may be delays during school holidays.
What if I can’t email my sponsored child?
World Vision encourage sponsors to write to their sponsored child. An alternative would be to post a letter to your sponsored child. They will be looking forward to hearing from you.
Why could I email my sponsored child last time and this time I can’t?
From time to time, it might not be possible to email your sponsored child. The area might not be set up to receive email. The delivery of email might be interrupted by civil unrest or the area might be suffering from the effects of extreme environmental conditions which mean that the World Vision resources in-country are diverted for a period of time.
Please rest assured that you can always send postal mail however there may be delays.
Why can't I send photos and other attachments to my sponsored child?
Email systems in many areas where World Vision work do not support attachments and increase the download times in already difficult conditions. There is also limited printing capability in these areas.
Do World Vision Australia keep copies of my email?
World Vision Australia respects the privacy of its supporters. It does not keep copies of the messages sent to the National Offices overseas.
