Water, Sanitation and Hygiene - Let's Come Clean
June 2007
Access to clean water and proper sanitation are basic human rights. Yet more
than 1 billion people do not have access to clean water and over 2.6 billion
people lack adequate access to sanitation. The direct result of this is poor
hygiene and a high incidence of preventable illness.
On Friday 8 June, World Vision, in partnership with Deakin University and
WaterAid, will present Water, Sanitation and Hygiene - Let’s Come Clean.
The conference will focus on how improving water, sanitation and hygiene impact
on developing communities. More specifically, total sanitation will be
highlighted as an appropriate tool to improve health outcomes at the community
level.
Presentations, case studies and skills building workshops will discuss the link
between water, sanitation and hygiene by highlighting best practice amongst
both community-based organisations and projects being implemented in this area.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene - Let’s Come Clean is primarily
targeted towards development practitioners, engineers and teachers interested
in global issues. It will also be of interest to policy makers and tertiary
students studying international development at either the undergraduate or
postgraduate level. The conference will provide presentations and workshops to
engage participants and facilitate discussion of their experiences in water,
sanitation and hygiene.
Different Focus for Different Interests. This conference has
been designed to appeal to a variety of professionals interested in water,
sanitation and hygiene. Specific sessions have been organised for engineers,
teachers, development practitioners and tertiary students.
