Help us deliver a Bundle of Joy

Published: 18 January 2012

  1. Deliver a ‘bundle of joy’ this Budget so we can help more newborn babies survive and thrive.

A Bundle of Joy usually takes nine months to deliver ... can you help us deliver one by May 2012?

In May 2012, the Federal Government is set to deliver its Budget for the next year – a document which shapes the activities of our nation. We are praying this Budget will not only be beneficial for Australians, but will also deliver a special “Bundle of Joy” for mothers and children living in poverty around the globe.

We’re hoping for a Budget that helps our nation reflect the principles of justice, mercy and generosity.

The global community has made significant progress in reducing child deaths over the past decade or so. In 1990, 12.4 million child deaths were recorded globally. By 2010, this figure had reduced to 7.6 million.

While this shows we are making great progress, we still have far to go. The death rates of newborn babies in developing countries is still unacceptably high, with infant mortality of newborns during their first 28 days making up 40 percent of global child deaths.

So what can you do?

We need you to help stand up for vulnerable mothers and children around the globe. Whether you’re a part of a mothers’ group, a playgroup, or are just passionate about global child health – we need your help!

Help us encourage the Australian Government to “Deliver a Bundle of Joy” this Budget by signing and delivering letters to their representatives in Parliament.

A special action kit has been developed to help Christians encourage the government to continue increasing its contributions to international aid (in line with our existing commitments); including $400 million to global health, and assurance that recipient countries are equipped with adequate newborn health strategies.

You can get involved. Download a PDF of the 'Deliver a Bundle of Joy' pack here.

This action kit provides the tools needed for people to encourage the Australian Government to uphold their promise to developing countries. The action kit walks you through how to:

  • sign a group letter to the Australian Government expressing your support for them to uphold their promises to the world’s poor;
  • deliver the letter to your representative in federal parliament;
  • and, submit a story to local media about your participation.

With your help, World Vision’s Child Health Now campaign can ensure our elected representatives in Parliament hear strong voices encouraging action and justice for the poor who are so often left voiceless in places of power.

We hope your church mothers’ group or playgroup can be a part of this movement 2012.

The Christian faith calls us to seek justice and defend the cause of those in need – and we hope this resource can help your church mothers'
