How you can help

Published: 14 September 2009

  1. World Vision loans have helped Thai farmers purchase fertiliser and other inputs to increase their crop yields.
  2. Gnanaraj has established a bicycle repair shop and rents out five bikes given to him by World Vision.
  3. Members of a women’s co-op in Honduras display the produce that is helping them generate income for their families

Economic stability can completely transform lives in poor communities. Protecting, restoring and generating new livelihoods has always played a big role in World Vision’s work.

With our transformational approach to development, World Vision is constantly working toward sustainable solutions. We need to equip people in our program areas with the tools and skills to continue to build strong communities for generations to come.

Economic development initiatives are built into our Area Development Programs, alongside our work in education, healthcare, agriculture, water and sanitation. By sponsoring a child, you can help communities become economically sustainable.

After an emergency hits, World Vision’s response may include working to restore livelihoods when farms or businesses have been destroyed, or other economic assets have been damaged. Donating to World Vision’s Emergency Preparedness Fund enables us to carry out this essential work in times of crisis. Livelihood protection is also a major part of our response to climate change, which you can support by donating to our One Earth program.

A program was launched in 2009 to specifically address economic development. SEE Solutions (Social and Economic Empowerment) was established to enable people in poor communities to acquire knowledge, skills and confidence, to find ways to solve their own problems and make their own decisions. Supporting SEE Solutions is providing a hand up for communities, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and look toward dignified and secure futures.

This is terrible that people work extrememly hard in hazardous conditions and then don't even have enough money to feed their families
