Mekong Youth Forum Header

Young people from Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand & Vietnam met in late Oct 2010 in Bangkok to share their ideas about trafficking and exploitation with their governments.

Culturally, young people in the region are discouraged from challenging authority and speaking out on issues that affect them. So it was a unique sight to see Mekong youth using theatre, puppetry and illustration to showcase strategies to combat human trafficking.

"I'm happy when I have dialogue with our government. I can say my opinion and they respect my ideas, listen to me and encourage me." explains Kollell, a 19 year old delegate from Cambodia.

Brett-Louise Woods from World Vision's VGen movement travelled to Bangkok to encourage the young delegates. This blog captures her inspiring moments from her time there...

  • Fame fortune and YouTube

  • Short films and Mossy

Mossy is a 15 year old girl who lives on the border of Thailand and Laos. If Mossy and I had gone to school together, I’m pretty sure we would have been best friends.

    Mossy is hilarious.

She is confident and passionate: I’ve watched her address government officials without nerves. ...

  • Rollerskating for their rights: Mae Sot children against trafficking

From chaotic Bangkok we headed out to the Thai border town of Mae Sot.

We weaved through lush green mountains and it felt like I was escaping to a jungle paradise. But once in the bustling centre of Mae Sot I realised it’s truly an industrial town, fuelled by migrant ...
