Children in Cambodia are at risk of being preyed upon by paedophile 'sex tourists' and child traffickers. World Vision's Child Safe Tourism project raises awareness of the issue through education and works towards keeping these vulnerable children safe.

World Vision’s Child Safe Tourism project in Cambodia is implementing strategies for preventing sexual exploitation of children in the following ways:

• information is disseminated amongst community leaders, teachers, tourism operators, local governments and children 
• improving prevention and protection measures at tourist hubs 
• educating children about their rights
• over 10,000 child safe tourism booklets have been distributed to highlight the plight of exploited children 
• nearly 3,000 children have been educated on child safe tourism. Some have become members of Child Peer Educator Teams to reach out to other children
• many hotels and guesthouses are working together to prevent sexual exploitation of children 
• project activities are held in 10 provinces across Cambodia

Taking action with Child Rescue

The sexual exploitation of children is happening in our own region. Many children across Southeast Asia are forced into prostitution – some before their 10th birthday.

World Vision works closely with the Cambodian Government to put a stop to this extreme form of child exploitation.

World Vision's work with community leaders, teachers, tourism operators, local councils and children is aimed at developing preventative and protective procedures at notorious child sex tourism hubs. Ongoing care is also provided, to children who have survived their exploitation by sex traffickers and sex tourists.
