Will your church join the next generation of Abolitionists?

Many Christians are becoming increasingly aware of human trafficking and slavery around the globe. It’s an abhorrent crime that reduces people to commodities. It is a consequence of poverty, discrimination and powerlessness where the strong prey on the vulnerable. In this global trade, humanity is minimised while profit is maximised.

Why should Christians in Australia be focusing on this issue? What is it about this exploitation that calls us to action?

Being a disciple of Jesus is about living our daily lives in step with God, and helping others to do the same – we learn more about the heart of the Father by emulating the Son.

Human trafficking and slavery is such an insidious crime that it has crept into many areas of our society – it is not limited to the sex trade, but can be present wherever there is demand for cheap goods and services, and a subsequent demand for cheap labour. Many of us, as consumers, are unaware that trafficked and exploited labour may have been used in the products we buy.

How can Christian disciples shed light on this injustice, expose exploitation, and help our society really value people?

On Sunday 20 November, churches around Australia will join together to raise awareness and speak out against human trafficking and slavery.

We do this because as Christians we want to follow Jesus in all things; seeking justice, mercy and faithfulness in the face of apathy and greed.

We invite you and your church community to join the next generation of Abolitionists on Abolitionist Sunday, 20 November, to shed light on this injustice and help to bring about God’s will for freedom, love and compassion on earth as it is in Heaven.
