About Wetenngerr (Epenarra)
Wetenngerr, also known as Epenarra, is a very remote indigenous community in the Southern Barkly Region of the Northern Territory with a population of up to 270 residents. Since 2002, World Vision Australia has been working in partnership with the community to build on their existing strengths, target the areas of concern as identified by the community and increase access to services in the region.
Currently project staff work together with the Wetenngerr community on projects that focus on Leadership and Governance, Health Promotion and Art and Craft Enterprises. The projects are implemented in partnership with the community, in processes of community and capacity development for transformation. With the support of corporations and individuals around Australia, these projects help bring a brighter future.
World Vision in partnership with the Wetenngerr community aims to:
- Support community governance and decision making processes.
- Support women's centre activities that improve skills and enterprise development, such as through arts and crafts.
- Improve health and well being outcomes for the community.
- Develop a long term community development plan and vision.
