What is Emergency Relief?
The generosity of Australians through World Vision helps to save lives in many ways. One of the most effective ways is our emergency response. To reduce the impact of humanitarian emergencies, World Vision is committed to responding swiftly and effectively. We also work with communities to mitigate against disasters and to increase their ability to cope with future emergencies.
World Vision responds to emergency situations like:
- rapid and slow onset natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis and droughts;
- man-made disasters such as conflicts and war;
- complex humanitarian emergencies caused by a number of factors such as political, social and economic, that can be across a single country or a group of countries; and
- chronic ongoing emergencies where a country experiences deterioration of quality of life over an extended period of time.
When a disaster strikes, World Vision staff can be on the scene within 72 hours, bringing urgently needed food and supplies to people faced with a crisis. The Emergency Relief Fund is designed to support this crucial work.
Your monthly contribution of $35 will help World Vision prepare for disasters by pre-stocking and positioning life-saving supplies in strategically located warehouses globally and having experienced and trained staff ready to respond. This enables World Vision to respond immediately to an emergency to save lives, reduce human suffering, protect livelihoods and rebuild communities.
