Mya escapes lifetime of slavery
At the age of seven, Mya was sold by her desperately poor mother and trafficked from her home in Myanmar to Bangkok, Thailand. She was made to work from 9pm to 6am every day, selling roses to customers in a smoke-filled bar.
Every day she cried for her family, until she was lucky enough to escape a lifetime of slavery. After almost four years, Mya was arrested by the Bangkok police, sent to the Immigration Detention Centre and then transferred to a local government-run child protection centre.
Mya was eventually located and taken back to her home by a World Vision employee who works to assist, support and protect trafficked women and children in Myanmar. Now Mya studies at World Vision Foundation of Thailand’s education centre and is enthusiastic about school and her future.
