Background
Located on the east coast of Africa, Kenya is home to over
28 million people. The majority of Kenyans live in rural areas
and rely on agriculture for survival and income. In urban
areas, many Kenyans live in slum conditions and unemployment
is high. Access to education is still an issue despite increases
in the number of children attending primary school. Places
in secondary schools are not readily available. General health
is improving although the spread of HIV/AIDS is a concern.
World Vision Australia is working with the communities in Kenya. Below are examples of funded projects:
Area Development Programs (ADPs)
Through these projects, communities are supported to provide
their children with access to health care, clean water, sanitation
facilities and education.
Food Security
World Vision is working with communities to ensure that they
will have the ability to provide themselves with adequate
food. This involves extensive agricultural work, planning
and training. World Vision also provides food for children
affected by HIV/AIDS and street children.
HIV/AIDS
This project provides support for community members who have
HIV/AIDS. Education programs emphasising prevention are also
a priority.
