Running Shoes

Being fitted for your running shoes at a running speciality store can be extremely important in preventing injury. Running shoes are designed to correct any small (or large) issues in your stride/foot strike that, if left uncorrected, can cause injury over time. Over-pronation (when your foot rolls too far inwards toward your instep) and under-pronation (when your foot does not roll enough) can both be corrected by being fitted for the correct type of shoe. You will want to go to a running speciality store and have them watch you run to determine what type of running shoe you should buy.

Running Clothes

It is helpful if all of your running clothes (socks, shorts, and shirts) are made of moisture wicking material, as it pulls moisture away from your body keeping you dry and comfortable. When you join Team World Vision you will receive a free running T-shirt to wear throughout your training and on race day.

Fuel Belt

A fuel belt is an alternative for anyone who will be doing long runs and does not like to run with a water bottle (especially beginning runners). Fuel belts have an elastic waist band with multiple, small clip-on containers that can hold water or energy drinks. Having a fuel belt for your long runs can help ensure that you stay properly hydrated.

Running Hat

It is helpful if your hat is made of a moisture wicking material and it can help keep the sun (or rain) out of your eyes.

Sunglasses

Many runners like to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun.

Watch

You can spend as little as $10 on a digital stop-watch to keep track of your time, or spend hundreds of dollars on a watch with GPS, a heart-rate monitor, etc. A  watch can help you keep track of your training runs and progress.

Runner ID Bracelet

A runner’s ID bracelet can help medics in case you are injured while running.
