What is the problem?
Every year in the developing world, more than 8 million children under five die from easily preventable causes like pneumonia, diarrhoea and malaria* and at least 340,000 women die during pregnancy or child birth
^.
These statistics are shocking - but it doesn’t have to be this way.
There are tried and tested interventions at the family and community level that we know will reduce maternal and child deaths – interventions such as immunisation, bed nets, skilled birth attendants, oral rehydration and exclusive breastfeeding.
And Child Health Now Communities can help.
What are Child Health Now Communities?
A Child Health Now Community is a name given to a hospital, university, clinical practice or community health centre that commits to advocating for better health for women and children in developing countries.
A Child Health Now Community agrees to undertake several actions a year to help raise awareness of the issues and provide opportunities for their community to take action.
