Our partnerships with Indigenous communities are located in inner suburban Sydney, as far north as Cape York and through the heart of the Northern Territory.
World Vision is working with Indigenous communities in four Australian states comprising many different language groups and nations. Recognising the diversity of Indigenous cultures is fundamental in our work and we respect the importance of local and traditional knowledge. Here is a snapshot of our current project activities being undertaken in partnership with local Indigenous communities.
Project name: Wutunugurra Arts Project
Where it's being implemented: Wutunurgurra, also known as Epenarra, Wetenngerr
Local language groups / Indigenous nations: Arrente and Alyawarr
Location: 210km southeast of Tennant Creek, NT
Population: 140
How long World Vision has worked there: 6 years
Project Summary: The goal of the Indigenous Art Program is to raise the socio-economic status of remote area communities through sustainable community art enterprises and the fair trade of Indigenous art.

Project name: Young Mob Project
Where it's being implemented: Redfern
Local language groups / Indigenous nations: Gadigal
Location: Inner suburb of Sydney
How long World Vision has worked there: 6 years
Project Summary: The Young Mob program encourages youth to take on active roles within their community by increasing communication skills such as public speaking, as well as strengthening culture and relationship to their community.

Project name: Mapoon Home Ownership Project
Where it's being implemented: Mapoon, also known as Marpuna
Local language groups / Indigenous nations: Tjungundi, Mpakwithi, Taepithiggi, Thaynhakwith, Warrangku, Wimarangga and Yupungathi people
Location: West coast of Cape York, QLD
Population: 346
How long World Vision has worked there: 2 years
Project summary: Where families and communities aspire to own their own home, and where communal ownership of land is not threatened, home ownership deserves support. World Vision Australia is working with the Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council, Indigenous Business Australia and relevant state government agencies to design and implement a home ownership scheme in Mapoon, Queensland.

Project Goal: The goal of the ECCD Program is to improve the wellbeing of children aged 0-5 years by building a foundation for children to reach their social, intellectual, spiritual & physical needs through the support of parents and carers and better early childhood services.

Where it's being implemented: Yuendumu, Lajamanu, Willowra, Nyirripi
Local language groups / Indigenous nations: Predominantly Warlpiri, includes Pintubi, Luritja & Kukatja speakers
Location: Various locations in the Northern Territory
Warlpiri Population: 5,000 - 6,000
