Why is it happening?

In recent years, the world has seen formerly poor countries like China and India achieve significant economic growth. As a result, the lives of millions of people in these countries have improved considerably.

However, this type of growth is difficult to achieve and there is not one sure-fire way to approach it. What succeeds in one country may not necessarily succeed in another. Just as there are reasons for China’s growth in particular sectors, there are different reasons for the growth in Indian sectors. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Any solution that attempts to improve the incomes of people living in poverty must be specially designed to suit the country or community affected. The sorts of challenges that poor communities face – in different combinations and to differing extents - are:

  • Lack of education and skills
  • Lack of employment opportunities
  • Lack of market access
  • Inability to access or implement technological improvements
  • Lack of infrastructure
  • Lack of resources and energy sources

World Vision’s work is done with communities at a local level. We work to address obstacles, so we can help people to help themselves move out of poverty and into self-sufficiency.

By supporting World Vision’s SEE Solutions program you can help people and communities improve their incomes and achieve their full potential. Visit our SEE Solutions page for more information.
