Liew Tong Ngan, CEO of World Vision Malaysia, explains what World Vision has achieved with the donations to our Japan disaster appeal.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, World Vision has reached over 27,000 people affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
Globally, the response to this disaster has been overwhelming. People around the world have responded with great compassion and generosity to relieve the suffering of the people of Japan.
“Now they need underwear, they need diapers, and a lot of people say they need hot food,” Liew Tong Ngan says. “And the situation is fluid, so we have to change all the time.”
So far, World Vision has provided the following for the relief of people affected:
- 13,800 blankets
- 140,000 nappies and wet wipes for babies and children
- 100,000 sanitary items for women
- 4,800 bottles of water
- 8,100 personal hygiene kits
- 26,000 undergarments
- 25,500 items of clothing
- 10,400 toilet rolls
We are close to reaching our 90-day goal of providing relief to over 30,000 people affected by the earthquake and tsunami. So thank you once again for reaching out to the people of Japan with practical support, and the assurance that they are not alone.
