Help create a better life for kids like Sandeep
Sandeep's got it tough. He lives in a city slum with his father and pet dog, and though he’s only nine years old he doesn't go to school. Sandeep leaves the house at 6 am every day to collect coal from the nearby railway tracks. If he's lucky he can jump on the daily coal train that rumbles past, collect a bagful of coal, then jump off and sell it to his neighbours to buy food for the day. If he's unlucky he must dig in the dirt hunting for pieces of coal that have fallen by the wayside. If Sandeep doesn't collect coal he and his father can't eat. Schooling, healthcare, playtime and a better future are just distant dreams for Sandeep and all the other children living in his slum community. The 40 Hour Famine is a community education and fundraising initiative of World Vision Australia. |
