Help create a better life for kids like Rajni

Kajal

Rajni lives in a slum and is the sole breadwinner for her family. She's only nine years old, but since her mother died a few years ago she's had to take on the responsibility of caring for her entire family.

To make a living for her five brothers and sisters, and her other relatives, she must work in the city streets collecting rubbish, which she then sorts through for recyclers to buy. She earns about $1 a day, which is enough for food but that's about it.

Rajni has no time to play thanks to all her responsibilities, chores and work. The fundamental childhood right - the right to play – has been taken from her and the slum is so crowded with rubbish, people, animal and human waste, and tiny houses that even if she did have time to play there’s no room to move!

The 40 Hour Famine is a community education and fundraising initiative of World Vision Australia.
