Feel like doing the 40 Hour Famine, but want to do it with your mates? Why not get a group together, appoint a leader and get things going so that you can do something real?
Do the 40 Hour Famine in 2010 (this year it’s on 20-22 August*) and raise money that World Vision can use to help children who are suffering the effects of the Global Food Crisis in Nepal and Kenya - plus other countries too.
AND: keep in mind that doing the 40 Hour Famine doesn’t necessarily mean giving up food! Your Group can choose to give up something else – you can all choose your own thing to go without. If you’re after suggestions, take a look at our ideas here.
All over this site we have heaps of useful stuff to make doing the 40 Hour Famine a breeze, but to get you started, take a look at our step-by-step guide below. If you decide that you want to be your Group’s Leader, we've got info to help out on that too. Take a look at the Group Leaders page.
*You can choose another 40 hour period to do the 40 Hour Famine – the important thing that it is done in time for all your donations to be collected and banked by 30 September 2010.
Online fundraising: it’s the way to go
Once your group has been set up and your Group Leader has given you your own receipt book, you can go about creating your own online fundraising page.
This is your place to show off! Put up your picture, state your fundraising target, tell everyone what you're giving up. This is your page, and you can promote it on your Facebook and MySpace pages, or you can just give the link (you get to choose the URL!) to your friends and family. Then, watch the money grow!
If you're 15 years old or under, please make sure your parents or guardian also read the Terms of Use before you sign up.
Take care of yourself!
Going without for 40 hours might well turn out to be a tough thing to do. But fear not, because we’re here to help. Take a look at the links on this page to find the resources you’ll need to stay comfortable and have fun, even when you are going without.
Remember, if you’re in primary school and choose to go without food, we ask that you considering doing this FOR 8 HOURS ONLY. Check out our tips for staying safe here.
