Group Leaders

Are you part of a school, church, community group or have a bunch of mates who want to do something real?

Why not step up and lead them in the 2010 40 Hour Famine?

This year it’s on 20-22 August* and during that time, we ask that your Group go without something/s, in order to raise money: money that World Vision will use to help children who are suffering the effects of the Global Food Crisis in Nepal and Kenya - plus other countries too.

Doing the 40 Hour Famine doesn’t necessarily mean giving up food! You and your Group’s members can give up whatever you like (take a look at our ideas here).

In fact, we have heaps of useful stuff to make leading your group a breeze, but to start with, take a look at our step-by-step guide below.

We've got a host of resources like extra Group Control Sheets, Tip Sheets for Churches and Schools, Posters and Christian Study Guides available for download when you're ready too.

Being a Group Leader can be a fantastically fun and rewarding experience. Come on board!

*Your group can choose another 40 hour period to do the 40 Hour Famine – the crucial thing that it is done in time for all your donations to be received and/or banked by 30 September 2010.

Are you 15 or under and want to be a Group Leader?

That's ok, but you must get a responsible adult to help you to collect and bank donations.

After you sign up

Once you’re signed up, you will receive a 40 Hour Famine package in the post*. This will be your Group Leader Kit, and it will contain:

  • the Group Leader folder (with step by step instructions)
  • the banking book
  • an introductory letter
  • the control sheet
  • a poster
  • reply paid mailing label sticker for returns
  • a lanyard (for Group Leaders to wear)
  • receipt books for group members

If you’re leading a school group, you’ll also get a Tips for Schools sheet.
If you’re leading a Church group, we’ll enclose a Tips for Churches sheet.

Please note, the mailing of Group Leader Kits will commence in May, 2010.
