Banking : The Lowdown

Global Leadership Convention participantsYou know what?
We really think that you are a star!

If you've just finished the 40 Hour Famine, then you've become part of our 35 year history of one of Australia’s biggest community awareness and youth fundraising events!

We think it's a powerful – and meaningful – way that you can experience what life is like for children who have to go without – Every. Single. Day.

So, know that you've gone without, how do you make it all count?
Simple: Make sure you bank the money you raised! Here's the lowdown on Banking:

Group Leaders

Moran Goat HerdersRemind your group members to round up their funds.
Donations can be received online via the Online Fundraising pages or collected in person.
All money must be banked by 30 September 2010.

If your members have collected cash or cheques they need to give them to you.
It’s your job to take this to an ANZ branch with a deposit slip from your Banking Book in your Kit.
The more often you bank your cash and cheques, the more up-to-date your online total will be.

  • Click here to bank online using a credit card
You can total your Groups donation and make a single payment for that amount via credit card.
When you are on this page, be sure to click the third radio button which states:
“I'm a 40 Hour Famine Group Leader depositing donations made to my Group Members.”
You will need your Bank Book number. Your Bank Book was included in your Group Leaders kit sent to you when you signed up.

Please be advised that because your group members have already given individual receipts to the people who gave these donations, your payment via credit card on this site is not a tax-deductible donation.

Group Members

Kenyan BoysIt’s time to collect the promised money from all of those people who said "Sure, I'll support you"
Remind everyone who supported you to pay up!
Remember that your supporters can either donate online or give you cash or a cheque.
You can enter the details of cash or cheques on your fundraising page so your total is up-to-date.

Got cash or cheques?
You must give these to your Group Leader by the date they specify.

Simply enter your Participant ID number and you're on your way.

Individuals

Matt Darvas herds CowsThe big thing for Individual participants to know about the 40 Hour Famine is that it all happens online – so no receipt books and no trips to the bank.
All of your donations can be collected and posted through your online fundraising page.
All donations must be paid by 30 September 2010.

Keep an eye on your fundraising page to make sure your the money is coming in.
(Online donations only, remember!)

... See if you or your group members can apply for an Award!

From Monday, August 23, you'll be able to log-in to your online fundraising page and apply for an Award.

Haven't got an online fundraising page?
Set one up now - it's still not too late!

And consider whether you are Youth Ambassador material...

... you just might be! Check out the info here

  • Madeline 22 Aug

I AM STARTING 2 THINK THAT I NEED 2 CHOSE SOMETHING ELSE 2 GIVE UP NEXT YEAR. OH WAIT, I GOT IT!I WILL GIVE UP (DRUM-ROLL).... SIGHT!
  • Sarah 22 Aug

Well done everyone, you are all superstars!!! I gave up food, furniture and telecommunications (sort of technology). I was walking home from church when it was 12:00 and then I literally slammed some cake into my face! Food has never tasted so good. . . It all made me realise how lucky we are here in Australia and it helped me appreciate what I had. I can't wait to do it again next year! But even though the 40 hour famine is over for us, it is not over in third world countries. They need all the support they can get! BTW, Bhavana, I'm not sure the answer to your question but as long as the money goes to third world countries, it doesn't matter if you've signed up for school or as an individual. Once again, good work everyone!

  • Nige @ 40 Hour Famine HQ 22 Aug

@Bhavana - Sounds like you made an Individuals page, rather than a Group Member page. Email service@worldvision.com.au and include your Participant numbers and everything and we can check it out for you. @Christi - The Certificates will be available to print via the Awards page from tomorrow morning. If your Group Members have lost their books, include a note of the book numbers that have been lost when you return the other books to WVA.

  • Bec 23 Aug

And you know what? we're so lucky! Even after going hungry for 40 hours, afterwards we get to stuff our face and these people don't. World Vision is truly amazing! DO THIS EVERY YEAR AND IMAGINE WHAT WE COULD ACHIEVE. I LOVE WORLD VISION.
  • Maddie 23 Aug

Wow! That was so amazing... I gave up sleep for 40 hours. My friend helped me stay awake... although it was hard when she fell asleep! haha. :) definitely doing it again next year and i'm going to continue raising money through out the year. :)
  • Maria 24 Aug

This is honestly my first experience and I can happily announce that it was a painful, yet successful event! Indeed inspirational! :) I love how everyone attempts to make you give in, ^^ making it feel as a game, but what a relief it was to finally eat and talk after those what seemed like never-ending hours. Our basic necessities in life are taken for granted; even when there are so many people around the world who are struggling to survive every day. It's sad and the statistics are there to prove it. This experience has helped me to appreciate life to the fullest, as well as to treasure my most prized possessions in life :) Count me in next year! Trully inspiration! Thank you for opening my eyes. I am truly grateful for everything I have been blessed with and hopefully we can make a difference in out world, even if it's just a small step.

It was the first time i was apart of this wonderful cause and im so happy i did it! i will absolutely be doing this next year and i now have a raising target to beat!

Man! it's get's harder the more things you give up! ooohhhhhh!!! feel so sorry for all those out there:( it is a relief and is heaps fun to be doing something for the world out there even if it was only for a short amount of time. WOW!! so happy i did it.
