Meet our Christian Youth Ambassador: Marissa

 2011 Christian Youth Ambassador, Marissa

"Our trip to World Vision Projects in East Timor was deeply impacting because it exposed me to the need of our nearest neighbours and how we have a responsibility to make a difference through supporting the incredible work that World Vision is doing with local communities.

This progress is the kind of thing that I love seeing happen and that I want to support and encourage others to get on board with.  As World Vision Christian Ambassador for the 40 Hour Famine I have the unique privilege to share these stories with Australian Christians and show them what a difference World Vision is making in people’s lives. Christians have a responsibility to fight injustice and help the needy and oppressed in the world. Although global poverty is a hugely complicated issue, we need to start where we can."

Koorong Gift Vouchers up for grabs!Churches

Churches are passionate about caring for the poor and connecting with their community.

This year, many are throwing a Party with a Purpose, or
creating their own Famine Village!

Throw a Party with a Purpose!

Party with a Purpose is a local response to the issue of global hunger. Our goal is to see groups from our local community host a social event in their home with their own group of family and friends. It could be a BBQ, pizza night, mums’ morning tea, dinner party, or just a get-together for school parents.

During your party, take 10 minutes to do three things:

SHOW one of these short videos about the World Vision 40 Hour Famine:

Watch both of these clips and choose the one that is most suitable for the group of people that you’ll be inviting to your party.

SHARE why you have chosen to personally support this cause. This is your story – it doesn’t have to be long, but your party will have more impact if you share your motivation.

INVITE your family and friends to support the cause by donating generously on the spot, or even by signing up to host their own Party with a Purpose or do the 40 Hour Famine.

Famine Villages

Establishing a Famine Village will be a memorable activity for your local community. It will give individuals of all ages an opportunity to experience what it is like to go without something important in their daily life, so that they can help change someone else’s life for the better.
