I set out for East Timor not knowing what to expect. I knew that the people were struggling with poverty, but being an Australian I really had no idea what poverty was.

For me, poverty is something that cannot be ignored. Thankfully, it is clear from the things I have seen, the stories I have heard and the people I have met that World Vision’s work really does change lives.

That’s why I am so excited to be involved in the 40 Hour Famine this year: I know that the money that my group and I raise will make a real and lasting difference to kids born into circumstances they have no control over.
