2010 World Vision Youth Ambassador: Hamish McKenzie in Nepal

Hamish McKenzie

18 years old, Victoria

I've done the 40 Hour Famine four times, giving up speaking, food, furniture and electricity. I hope that every Victorian can take part in this year's famine.

I finished year 12 last year and am now studying Arts at Melbourne Uni. I love playing hockey and volunteering at Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club over the summer.

I applied to be a Youth Ambassador because I believe that young Australians have both the capacity and the willpower to end extreme poverty. For me, the future is one in which the developed world has acted and succeeded in fulfilling the Millennium Development Goals, and you can either be part of it, or get left behind.

World Vision provides a chance for everyone to make a difference in the world, and I'm both honoured and excited to be involved in a movement of such passion and energy.
